The orca is also called a killer whale because it is such a fierce predator. They are 15 feet long. The orca is related to the dolphin. The orca uses echolocation to find its food. It makes a noise by its melon (the top part of its head) and the noise bounces off of its prey or an item and it can tell where it is.
Like its cousin the dolphin, the orca has a blow hole. The blow hole allows it to breath air without poking its head out of the water. You can sometimes see them slap there tales on the water. No one knows why they do this. For now it is their secret.
Their teeth are 2 and a half inches long! These animals need to be protected. Gas leaks from boats kill many orcas, also many seals and fish are caught and killed. These accidents and captures are making it a struggle for orcas to survive. We can help by only catching enough fish that we need and insuring that gas leaks won't happen. This will help our orca friends to survive.
