The tiger salamander is the only salamander found in Utah. It has black, and white "stripes" on it. It has a long round snout. It is 9-10 inches long.
It's a cold-blooded amphibian (it can't control its body temperature). It eats insects, and other small invertebrates (animals without backbones). The females can lay over 100 eggs! Like all amphibians the tiger salamander lays its eggs in water.
They live in ponds, and streams in eastern Utah. They are prey to snakes, and large fish. They are out during the day, and in the night. They have 5 toes on their hind feet, and 4 on their front feet.
We need to protect Utah's amazing and only salamander.
